The fascinating sandstone mountains of Saxon Switzerland, shot at dawn in the fall of 2018.

The story behind the image

I’ve explored the Elbe Sandstone Mountains often, drawn back again always by the surreal rocky landscapes. But I only discovered the spot from which I took this shot in the fall of 2018. It offers an impressive view of the Wehlnadel rock needle, Bastei bridge and Lilienstein mountain. At dawn on this particular day, the light was just right too. The first rays of sunlight created a unique picturesque atmosphere that I was able to capture with my camera and a tripod.
